>One Island, One Dream< in Nightmarket

Night Market Workshop focuses on the social context of the Taiwanese night market. It attempts to respond to it by organising creative activities since summer 2006 and participation is not limited to artist student but it opens up the participation to students from all kind of different disciplines as computing science, design, architecture, etc. The theme of this year is on Street Experience, which means that all the projects are presented and played in the night market with the intention to interact with people.

The Group lead by Paris-based artist Yi-Hua WU (TW) and New York-based artist Alyssa Wright (USA), has presented an open participative performance – < One Island, One Dream > on 16th August 2008, at 20h, at Garden Night Market in Tainan city, Taiwan. gregor schneider, süßer duft

Just a very example as Wilfried Hou Je Bek explained:

In psychoanalysis the word psychogeography is used in relation to phenomena of location based hysteria: you are perfectly sane, you enter a particular room and within a split second you are stark raving mad. Only when this response is universally shared and not dependent on a random individual neurosis, this power of a room can be called psychogeographic.

From the age of 16, Gregor Schneider (born in Rheydt in 1969) has been transforming the interior of the home he inherited from his father in the small town of Rheydt, Germany. A work in progress until 2007, he has constantly added new rooms, separated others, removed mod-cons, and blocked up windows, adding fake ones in their place. The result is a labyrinthine structure which he has entitled Haus u r (House u r). Occasionally, visitors are invited to spend the night there and share his personal space. Tino Sehgal solved a fundamental problem of Conceptualism.

“This is not theater,” he corrects me. “There is no script. There is no stage. I’m asking you to be yourself.”
“But there are rules,” I remind him. “So is this a philosophical game?”
“To play it well does not mean to win,” he teaches me. “It means to contribute to an interesting situation.” Sehgal’s work proposes a dynamic take on the idea of the “expanded concept of art,” arguing for a process of production that revolves around exchanges and transformations of thoughts, as he has said, “rethinking the notion of a product as a transformation of actions not as a transformation of materials.”

No photos.
No videos of the work.
No documentation at all.
No invoices.
Just memory.
Just art.

Magasin 3 presents an exhibition of constructed situations by the acclaimed artist Tino Sehgal. Continue reading ‘Tino Sehgal solved a fundamental problem of Conceptualism.’

Talk in “Mobile-Immobile”

In the «Journée d’étude n°1, “Mobile-Immobile”», Université Paris 8, salle A1-172, de 9h30 à 18h30.

I will share and talk about my recent research :

Day of the Figurines de Blast Theory-Une illustration du théâtre techno-nomad comme reflet de la situation post-dramatique

Day of the Figurines by Blast Theory : an illustration of techno-nomad theater as a reflection of a post-dramatic situation.

Ben van Berkel & the Theatre of Immanence

Ben van Berkel, The Thing, 2007MESO Digital Interiors, On Things Off Things On, 2007production sketch

The group exhibition Ben van Berkel & the Theatre of Immanence consists of an advanced installation designed by Städelschule professor of architecture Ben van Berkel together with Prof. Johan Bettum and Luis Etchegorry. The installation houses a series of works by artists and architects who have participated in the one-year long experimental project, entitled the Space of Communication, a project by the Städelschule Architecture Class (SAC). The participants in this project have been international architects and artists Asterios Agkathidis, Brennan Buck & Igor Kebel, Florencia Colombo, Dani Gal, Holger Hoffmann, Jonas Runberger and Gabi Schillig. In addition, the Frankfurt-based design-technology group, MESO Web Scapes / MESO Digital Interiors, is providing an installation of advanced image projection entitled On Things Off Things On. Throughout its period, the exhibition will serve as a hub for various events and lectures. This exhibition marks the end of the exploratory Städelschule-project the Space of Communication where various aspects of the contemporary conditions of social interaction and communication have been investigated. While some of the projects inherently engage with new electronic technology, some take it for granted and others merely reflect upon it in a distant fashion.
