Samuel Beckett «Quad I + II», 1981.

Even it is just shown in a small television on the ground. This is one of the most beautiful pieces at « Culture hors-sol » in Geneva.

«Quad I + II»
‘Quad’, the first in a series of minimalist experimental television plays made by Beckett in the 1980s for the broadcaster Süddeutscher Rundfunk, operates with a serial game involving the motional pattern of four actors, but equally accommodating four soloists, six duos, and four trios. Four actors, whose coloured hoods make them identifiable yet anonymous, accomplish a relentless closed-circuit drama. Continue reading ‘Samuel Beckett «Quad I + II», 1981.’

(Henri Lefebvre, L'introduction à la modernité, Paris, Minuit, 1962, p.336)

«aller-retours» will be shown in the One Minute Film & Video Festival in Aarau.

« aller-retours», 2004, B&W, mute, 50 secs in loops. DVD PAL. By WU Yi-Hua,

In this calm and immense sea, an unknown force gives the illusion of a displacement of the landscape where as it does nothing but return to its initial state. It is an infinite return like an eternally ephemeral constant.

Wu Yi-hua’s blog Pirouette cacaouette, featured links to her own work, with a subdued but nevertheless strikingly powerful simple piece:« aller-retours». This is probably one of the most minimalist piece in this subjective overview: a one minute b/w the view of a beach, with heavy clouds looming, and but little wave movements, as the sea is almost still. During the endless loop from one-minute footage, the clouds slightly shift into the horizon, to retreat back again, witnessing the feeble moves of the sea onto the shore. This insistent gaze, the framing of probably the most inconspicuous setting, leads, to a meditative image, a “reverie” not unlike Bachelard’s insistence on the literary image to be “enriched by a new oneric life, to create a different meaning and evoke a different reverie….
Present, yet constantly receding. Continue reading ‘«aller-retours» will be shown in the One Minute Film & Video Festival in Aarau.’

THE CITY AS AN INSTRUMENT…

Why do I post this ? I want to interact with the last post « skulptur projekte muenster 07 ». It is about the same subject : the city, public space, but this one is a call for the cognitive computing interaction, another attends more for aesthetic-historical implication.

When the physical space is transformed into computing data through a kind of analogical relation. With the compression of the living participation, virtuality becomes a mystery. In which kind of world are we implied in? an empty one or a lost one ? Maybe it will be more funny to inverse this logic about the digital transformation of the city. This method reminds us of Sophie Calle’s series of photographs supposed to represent the imagination of what the blind people view or perceive.

The call concerns itself with the use of the city as an instrument or place of artistic practice. This may vary from art whose subject is the city to art, which is actually performed in a city. Special attention is given to telematic art practices in which activities within the city bring about changes and responses at another space. The space is often an inside location, or closed spaced that brings contrast to the open space of the city. Continue reading ‘THE CITY AS AN INSTRUMENT…’

Review « Les Perses »

« ARE YOU EXPERIENCED ? » leads me to rethink of «Les Perses» by theatre combinat which was presented at Théâtre du Grütli in Nov. 2006. It is recommendable to made a tour of their site (sorry my german is poor and Google translation is helpful. ;) ) Actually this site introduces about the most recent theme of research: «Producing tragedy».

( via Théâtre du Grütli)

I believe that the real theme of their research is on the historicity of theater. We can imagine that Ulla von Brandenburg has the same interest for this aspect. They have the same desire to decode it/ post-produce it.
